“Doors Between” was performed originally for an OptoSonic Tea/NowNetArts event on May 30th, 2020 – which was a live stream performance. This second version was done with the same setup a few days later (not live-streamed). It is performed in real-time with Gerry in Luzern, Switzerland, and Beth in New York City using primarily Zoom to transmit the video and audio from Luzern to NY which Beth interacts in real-time. The images are processed using Max/MSP Jitter. Gerry is using a Sensory Percussion device with his snare drum (which effectively makes the drum head a sampler). The snare drum is also heard acoustically without processing. The cymbal is acoustic (not processed in any way), miked from underneath in order to highlight its rich low frequencies. This version of the performance includes an additional layer composed live which is integrated into the final edit.
Thanks to both Katherine Liberovskaya and Ursula Scherrer of OptoSonic Tea and Sarah Weaver of NowNetArts.org for the invitation to perform on their new OptoSonic [e]Lab series.
