Beth Warshafsky is an artist whose work spans drawing, video, animation, live projection, photography, and text-based work including artist’s books. She often collaborates with musicians and dancers and is interested in the correspondences between sound, image, and movement as well as text and image. Her early background as a painter informs her approach to video, composition, and design. Her work moves between the amorphous boundaries of still and moving images in physical and digital spaces.

From 1997-1999 Prof. Warshafsky developed a new mandatory course for all first-year Foundation Art and Design students at Pratt – Four-Dimensional Design (4D). She helped design new classroom computer labs and resources for this course, wrote curriculum and trained faculty. 4D (now called Time & Movement) was one of the first in the country to consider how to teach time-based media to students, including introducing students to digital skills within a Foundation context. The course focuses on time-based structures including sound-image relationships, video editing, and animation. Skills in timing and spacing in both analog and digital media are emphasized. Warshafsky served as the coordinator of the 4D course for 20 years, helping to shape its growth and evolution as a discipline.
